Watercolor Hearts

A closeness with Jesus begins and grows with prayer.

Malulabelle opened a fresh pallet of watercolors. She dipped her paint brush in water. A pop of pretty paint caught her eye – yellow! She swirled her brush in its brightness and cheer. Her heart felt yellow, too.

“I'll start with the sun.” Malulabelle swished her brush along the page.

The painted skyline reminded her of a familiar place. “This feels like Sunday.” She giggled. “l’ll paint a little church!”

Malulabelle hummed and giggled more as her artwork formed. Painting was one of her favorite things.

She paused to take a look. ‘A bright sun and sky. A patch of daisies. A tree with a swing. Oh! This needs colored glass windows.’

Malulabelle dabbed with purples. Twirled with pinks. And skimmed with reds. The watercolors mixed in some places. “Oops!” But they blended into beautiful new shades of magenta, berry, and fuchsia. This surprised her. She shared her heart with Jesus.

“Jesus, I love the deep colors of the windows. It’s better than what I imagined.”

She blew over the watery paint to coax a quicker dry. The colored windows gave her a new thought. She prayed again.

“Jesus, my pretty purples, pinks, and reds were lost. But when they washed together, I found new heavenly colors! This is how I feel when I talk to you, Jesus. My heart blends with Yours and becomes dazzling, rich and new. You color my heart. Thank you, Jesus, for my beautiful, colorful heart.”

We can unite our hearts with Jesus through prayer. Share the ups and downs of your day with Him – the exciting parts and the boring parts. Sit in silence with Him. As your friendship grows, He is shaping and coloring your beautiful heart. Can you imagine Jesus painting with watercolors? What colors is he painting in you?
