The Sweetness of Peace

Themes:

- Trust fully in God, even if you feel worried.

-Looking for moments of peace in stressful situations can help you feel God’s presence.

Malulabelle tied on her roller skates. Today she was skating at the rink with friends for a birthday party.

“Let’s go, Malulabelle!”

“Here I come! I’m going to try to skate backwards. Want to join me?”

“Yeah, let’s do it!”

The friends joined hands and glided ahead and behind each other. They sang with the music at the top of their lungs. They raised their hands and giggled around the rink. It felt like they had wings!

Malulabelle was ready to try skating backwards. Slowing her pace, she took a deep breath and turned around. “Look, I can do it!”

But Malulabelle didn’t hear a response from her friends. They had skated ahead without knowing she had fallen behind. Malulabelle stretched her neck to catch a glimpse of them. But the crowds had grown. “Oops! Sorry about that.” Malulabelle bumped into another skater. She decided to turn back in the right direction.

I only need a turn or two around the rink to catch my friends. She weaved in and out of skaters, but it was difficult to see around the crowds.

Twice around the rink and there was still no sign of her group. She continued skating. Three rounds. Four rounds. Malulabelle started to worry. She didn’t recognize anyone around her. Worse yet, the lights had dimmed so it was harder to be on the lookout.  I’m lost in the crowd.

Malulabelle knew what to do. She said a prayer in a quiet voice. “Dear Jesus. I’m feeling worried. I don’t want to miss the birthday party. How will I find my friends?” She exited the rink to watch the skaters. Perhaps she could spot them better by staying in one place.

The lights came on again. Malulabelle sighed in relief. She scanned the rink. A young boy learning to skate made her smile. He was getting the hang of it! Along the wall a couple with white hair skated slowly together hand in hand. Close by, friends who had stumbled helped each other back on their wheels as they squealed in delight. These were sweet moments.

Malulabelle’s heart warmed. She had a new thought. “Jesus, I can see happy moments all around me. You are giving me the gift of peace when I am worried. Thank you, Jesus. I feel better.”

“Malulabelle!” Malulabelle’s friends rushed to her side. “We stopped skating to have cake at our booth but couldn’t find you. I’m so glad you’re here!”

“Oh, me too! And don’t worry about me. I’ve been filled with some sweetness already.”

Have you ever felt nervous or afraid, like Malulabelle? God is close to us even in these times. Finding moments of peace around us when we are worried can help us feel God’s presence. Tell Him how you feel in prayer. He is listening. He loves you and will guide you.
