Little Butterfly

Trust in the steady guidance of Jesus instead of relying on your feelings.

Malulabelle cuddled on the front porch swing. Creak-squeak. Creak-squeak. She liked the rhythm of the sound it made.

The next day was the first day of school. Malulabelle had mixed feelings. The thought of seeing her friends everyday again made her smile. But she wasn’t ready to say goodbye to summer. That made her smile disappear.

Malulabelle stopped swinging. She spotted a butterfly flickering through the flowers.

“Hello, little butterfly.” She watched as its wings fluttered about. Malulabelle felt flutters in her stomach too. She imagined the butterfly flying in her belly. She giggled. “Do you ever feel nervous, little butterfly?” Malulabelle wanted to share her heart with Jesus.

“Jesus, I’ve been praying about school all week. Why do I still feel nervous? Did you hear my prayers?”

The butterfly flew closer to Malulabelle. She imagined it was dancing just for her. She giggled again. Then it landed on a large garden rock. It seemed to pause for a rest. This gave Malulabelle a new thought. She shared her heart with Jesus again.

“Jesus, the butterfly’s fluttery wings are like my feelings – up and down, flittering fast. But You are like the rock she lands on – steady and solid – giving me a place to rest from worry. I know you will take care of me. Thank you, Jesus.”

Isn’t it true? Our bellies can flutter like butterfly wings when we worry. And it can feel like Jesus isn’t close. But He is our rock to land on when we feel fluttery inside. Keep sharing your worries with Him. He is listening. He can turn the flutters into an easy, light & airy flight.
