Forgive like Jesus.
Malulabelle and her friend, Elly, burst into the kitchen.
“I’ll get the aprons!”
“I’ll set out the biscuits.”
“I love cooking with you, Malulabelle.”
“Me, too, Elly!”
The girls organized ingredients for Sunday Soup; veggies, meat, & seasonings. “It’s like our own little grocery store!” They giggled.
They peeled and chopped and twirled around the counter. Each yummy ingredient was lowered into the pot. They took turns stirring in swirls. They tasted. They waited.
“Remember the last time we made this soup, Elly?”
“Yes, it was after a disagreement.”
“What did we disagree about?”
“I don’t remember! But I do remember we were friends again, and the soup tasted extra delicious.”
The girls crunched on carrots. They giggled again.
Malulabelle closed her eyes and wafted the aroma toward her face. Her heart felt as warm and hearty as the simmering soup. She shared her thoughts with Jesus.
‘Jesus, how can such simple ingredients make the most delicious soup?’
One more taste. It’s ready!
The girls clinked their spoons together. They dipped their buttered biscuits and took a big, slurpy bite. Simple and savory. This gave Malulabelle a new thought.
“Elly, will you pray with me?”
“Yes!”
“Jesus, sharing this Sunday Soup with Elly reminds me of forgiveness. With the perfect combination of ingredients – mercy, love, and humility – we can enjoy a savory friendship. Thank you for my friendship with Elly. And thank you for flavoring our souls with your love.”
Have you ever had to forgive someone? Or asked for forgiveness? Sometimes it isn’t easy. But Jesus asks us to forgive like He does. With the right ingredients - a dash of mercy, dollop of love, and spoonful of humility, Jesus can help us enjoy the satisfying fullness of forgiveness.
