My Best Friend, Jesus

Themes:

- A friendship with Jesus brings peace and happiness.

- We can pray for others to open their hearts to God’s love and mercy.

Malulabelle snuggled into bed. It was the end of another on-the-go day. She propped up against her pillow and spread out her marshmallow soft comforter. Her fluffy pup, Coconut, nestled in close.

“Ruff!” Coconut tickled her with the nudge of his nose. He always knew how to make her giggle.

“It’s time to write in my Jesus Journal, Coconut.” Malulabelle reached for her butterfly pen and prayer diary. Each night she loved to think about her day and look for ways Jesus was with her.

Malulabelle flipped through the pages and read a few past entries. Some made her smile. Like, the day she learned how to roller skate! And, when she made cookies with her neighbor. But some entries made her sad, too. One day she accidentally let go of a balloon she won at the fair. Another time, she stained a new pair of shoes by walking in the mud.

Today, Malulabelle’s favorite part of the day was watering the big, green plant by the window.

She started her entry with a prayer. “Dear Jesus, I felt happy all day. I want to pray for my friends and family who didn’t feel happy. Help them feel your love. Please bless them in big ways.”

Malulabelle started to write about the big, green plant. She wrote about when it wasn’t so big. How a little bit of water now and then, and plenty of sunshine, helped it grow. This gave her a new thought.

“Jesus, the plant reminds me of being friends with you. When I pray, I feel your love for me. The blessings you give me are like my water and sunshine. Our friendship grows and grows! Jesus, you are my best friend. Thank you.”

Jesus is a good friend, isn’t he? He loves you so much! Each time you pray, your friendship with Jesus grows and grows. He wraps you in His arms and sends blessings to you every day. What blessings have you noticed today?
