Little Worries

Themes:

- God longs for us. He waits patiently for us to come to Him.

- God holds all our worries, big and little, in his heart. He transforms them into something beautiful.

Friday had finally arrived, and the school dismissal bell was about to ring. Malulabelle felt all her energy bubble up inside. She shimmied in her seat.

This weekend Malulabelle had big plans. It was her fluffy pup Coconut’s birthday! Coconut loved running up and down the hilly grass at the park. On Saturday, she planned to surprise him with a trip there. It would be the best playtime ever! And with no homework, they could play all afternoon!

“Class, your science reports are due on Monday,” Mr. Smith reminded them. “Meet with your science partner this weekend to finish your projects.” The bell rang.

Malulabelle’s heart sank.

Malulabelle and her science partner, Charlotte, zipped up their backpacks. Charlotte breathed out a big sigh. Malulabelle could tell something bothered her.

“Are you worried about our science project, Charlotte? I forgot about it too!”

“I was thinking about my grandma. She isn’t feeling well. We are going to visit her on Sunday. But we will still find time for our project on Saturday afternoon, Malulabelle. See you then!”

On her ride home, Malulabelle thought about Charlotte and her grandma. ‘How can I worry about Coconut’s playtime when Charlotte’s grandma is sick? Charlotte has a bigger worry than me.’

Malulabelle knew what to do. She closed her eyes and prayed. “Dear Jesus, I want to make Coconut’s birthday special. But I don’t want to bother you with my little worries...”

When Malulabelle arrived home, Coconut ran to greet her with his slurpiest I-missed-you-lick! He always knew how to make her giggle. “Oh, Coconut! You are always so happy to see me. I know you love me. Do you want to hear about my day?”

“Ruff!” Coconut wiggled and wagged.

Malulabelle’s heart felt warm, and this gave her a new thought. She knelt by Coconut and closed her eyes again. “Oh, Jesus. I know you want to hear about my day too! My worries might be small, but I know you care. Please bless Coconut on his birthday. Please bless Charlotte and her grandma, too. Let us all feel your love this weekend. Thank you, Jesus!”

Have you ever had a “little worry” in your heart? Maybe it felt too little to pray about. But nothing is too little or too big for God. He waits for us to come to Him with every struggle, even a little one. When we share our worries with God, he can shape our hearts by filling us with His love and peace.
