Little Treasures

John 17:1-11a

- Look for the treasures God gives you. They are little glimpses of heaven.  

- Shine your light on the treasures in your life, to reveal God to others.

Malulabelle flipped on her flashlight and started the night hike with her youth group. She wore her favorite pink hiking boots. The night sky was clear and filled with stars.

“What treasures can you find along the way?” Miss Trudy, the hike leader, encouraged the little night hikers to use all their senses.

“Look at these!” Malulabelle put a spotlight on a pop of petals at the start of the trail.

“Those are trilliums,” said Miss Trudy. “They have three petals and three leaves. Let’s record this in our hiking journal.”

Malulabelle was pleased. ‘Three. Like the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,’ she thought. It was her favorite number.

The friends continued up the treelined trail. They found lots of nature prizes along the way – pinecones, beetles, snails, unusual rocks, plants, and interesting trees.

As each hiker revealed something new with their flashlight, Malulabelle felt a spark of excitement and warmth in her heart. She shared her thoughts with Jesus.

‘Jesus, this hike must be like heaven. We’ve discovered so many of your creations. They are never-ending!’

The hike finished with snacks and sharing time. Everyone described their favorite discoveries. As Malulabelle listened, she had a new thought. She prayed again.

‘Jesus, each time we shined our light on a new discovery, we were revealing your glory. There is a piece of you in every creation. Thank you, Jesus, for all these treasures that lead to you!’

What are the treasures in your life? When we share our gifts and little joys with others, we are glorifying God. What a simple way to spread the love of Jesus and shine our lights upon the world.
