Little Chicks

John 11:1-45

- God does not rush. He gives us the right amount of time to accomplish his glory.

- Only God can see the overall picture of our lives. We can trust in His perfect timing.

Malulabelle dragged home after school on Friday. Unlike her usual excitement for the weekend, she felt unsettled.

For days, her class shared responsibilities on a chick-hatching project. Malulabelle and her friends turned eggs in the incubator, recorded observations on the Chick Chart, and wrote in their science journals. It was the most exciting project of the year!

But Malulabelle knew the eggs would hatch soon. And she did not want to miss it! She cuddled with her fluffy pup, Coconut.

“Coconut, what if we arrive at school Monday, and the chicks have already hatched?”

“Ruff!” Coconut gave her an I-love-you-lick on the cheek.

Malulabelle giggled. “You always know how to make me feel better, Coconut.” She gave him a squeeze.

Malulabelle wanted to speed up her weekend. She scarfed down meals. She skimmed through chapters of her book. She even tucked into bed early. But nothing made time go faster. She decided to share her worried heart with Jesus.

“Jesus, I can’t wait to get back to school on Monday. You wouldn’t let us miss the hatching, would you?”

On Sunday morning, Malulabelle was up early. She watched a slow-rising sun from the front porch. She followed a bird casually collecting nest materials. She noticed the shrubs that were slowly turning green with the warming spring weather. Malulabelle smiled. She had a new thought.

“Jesus, I’ve been rushing through my days. But you aren’t worried about time. You’ve given Creation the perfect amount of time to grow and bloom, time to give you glory. I can be patient today.”

On Monday morning, Malulabelle and her classmates peeked at the eggs. “Look! It’s cracking!”

Malulabelle whispered to herself, “Thank you, Jesus, for your perfect timing, and for giving me patience to see your glory.”

Have you ever felt impatient? Sometimes we might even ask God to hurry up and answer our prayer! But God does not rush. He sees the big picture and will answer our prayers in His time. When we feel impatient, we can ask God for the grace to trust in his perfect timing.
