Matthew 5:13-16

Malulabelle and her friend, Elly, burst into the kitchen. Malulabelle gathered baking ingredients. Elly reached for aprons.

“I love chocolate chip cookies.” Malulabelle scooped and measured.

“Me, too!” Elly whisked and stirred.

The girls mixed and rolled the soft dough. They sampled chocolate chips and giggled.

“Do you know the secret ingredient, Elly?” Malulabelle whispered. Elly wanted to know.

“Salt!”

The girls sprinkled fat, flaky crystals overtop the round drops of dough. Then slid them into the oven to bake.

“Malulabelle, what is so special about salt on cookies?”

“You’ll know when you taste them!”

The friends washed up and waited for the cookies. Ding!

“They’re ready!” Malulabelle and Elly chose the chunkiest cookies from the rack - warm and gooey, sweet and salty.

Elly’s eyes widened as she tasted the chocolatey treats. “How can something as simple as salt, turn these into gourmet cookies!”

Malulabelle’s eyes shined. This gave her a new thought. “Cookies with salt is like life with Jesus!” The girls grinned and took another big bite.

“Elly, can you pray with me?”

“Yes!”

The friends bowed their heads.

“Dear Jesus. We are like your little chefs! Thank you for our friendship, and for always being in our hearts. And thank you most of all, for seasoning our hearts with your love.”

It’s no secret. Just like salt in baking, Jesus brings flavor and structure into our lives and changes the chemistry of our soul! We can be like His little chefs too – by living life with brightly and deliciously seasoned hearts - sprinkling his Goodness all around.
