Malulabelle reached for the children’s bible from her shelf.

“There are some good stories in this book!” Malulabelle and her friend, June, sat on the rug to read.  Colorful pictures brought each bible story to life. They flipped through the pages, stopping at their favorite illustrations.

The Nativity Story!

The girls took turns reading and sharing. They imagined what it would be like to be a part of each scene.

“Malulabelle, have you noticed there are a lot of pictures of fire?”

“Oh! Let’s read some of those.”

They found several pages filled with vibrant orange and red flames. They read about a burning bush, a fiery furnace, and little tongues of fire that helped Jesus’s followers speak different languages.

June and Malulabelle wrote and drew in their journals. They tried to match the beautiful art from the bible.

“I love reading these stories, Malulabelle.”

“Me too! They make me feel warm and cozy.”

“Like cuddling up next to a fireplace!” The girls giggled.

“Hey, that gives me an idea. Will you pray with me, June?”

Malulabelle and June held hands and hushed in prayer. “Dear Jesus. We know you love us. We can feel your warmth in our hearts. Thank you for this bible, and for good friendships. Please help us to keep learning about you so that we can love you back, more and more each day.”

Have you ever felt warm and cozy after hearing a story about Jesus? That was the Holy Spirit, putting your heart on fire for Him! Reading bible stories is one way to help the flame of love in your heart grow. The next time you feel that warm and cozy feeling, share it with a friend, and you will ignite a flame in their heart too.
