Excited for Jesus

Themes:

- God calls us to be zealous in our faith – to be excited to share Him with others!

-You can show excitement for the Lord in your own way, by using the talents God gave you.

“Let’s use our best singing voices to praise the Lord, today!” Miss Mum encouraged the children’s choir at the start of practice. “Now, listen to my voice as I sing the first verse.”

“I love to sing,” whispered Malulabelle to her friend, Maggie, “but I have trouble with the high notes!”

“You almost have it,” answered Maggie. “Just keep practicing.”

Miss Mum sat at the piano. Her fingers slid over the keys with ease. She sang with a smooth voice. It reminded Malulabelle of warm maple syrup. Malulabelle sat in awe at Miss Mum’s beautiful singing. She wanted to praise the Lord with a voice like that!

“Ok, friends, it’s your turn.” Miss Mum directed her smiling eyes at the choir. Malulabelle’s voice cracked at the high part. Her cheeks turned red. But no one seemed to notice.

Later at home, Malulabelle practiced their new choir song again and again. To try reaching the high note, she looked up to the ceiling. She stood on her tippy toes. She even stretched her arms up into the air! But nothing helped. Malulabelle knew exactly what to do next. Folding her hands, she prayed. “Dear Jesus, I want to praise you with my best singing voice. But I don’t have a singing voice like Miss Mum.”

Malulabelle sat at her art table and picked out her brightest colored pencils. Drawing always made her feel happy.

The next day at choir practice, Malulabelle gave her drawing to Miss Mum.

“Malulabelle, thank you! God has given you the gift to draw! And He is happy to see you share that with me.” She hung it next to the piano. This gave Malulabelle a new thought.

Skipping back to the choir, Malulabelle quietly prayed, “Dear Jesus, you have given us all different talents! Some of us sing. Some of us draw. And we can ALL praise you. Thank you, Jesus!”

God calls us to be zealous in our faith. That means, to have a deep feeling of love and excitement for Him! One way to show our zeal for God is by using the talents and gifts he gave us. This gives Him glory! What are the special talents God gave you? Perhaps you are a good reader, listener, athlete, or a kind friend. When others comment on our talents and gifts, we can say, ‘thank you – it is a gift from God!’
