It was Malulabelle’s favorite time of year – Christmas! She loved everything about this season – frosty windows, cinnamon sticks in her cider, and the way snow under her feet was powdery one day and crunchy the next. And, most of all, she loved picking out the perfect presents for her family and friends.

“I know what you’re getting for Christmas, Coconut!”

“Ruff!” Malulabelle’s fluffy pup, Coconut, gave her an I-love-you-lick on the cheek. He always knew how to make her giggle.

“I love you, too, Coconut.”

Coconut nestled into Malulebelle’s lap. “Let’s read a Christmas story.” She flipped open her children’s bible to The Nativity.

Reading about Baby Jesus made Malulabelle’s heart feel warm. She pictured the clear night sky. The little baby, warm and cozy in his swaddle. She felt a calmness that made her smile. She closed her eyes to pray. “Dear Jesus, I know my friends and family will love the presents I picked for them. But I also know you are our true gift. I want to give you something this year, too, Jesus. But what present could I ever give to you?”

Malulabelle opened her eyes. She continued reading the Nativity to Coconut. “I’m so thankful for Mary and Joseph. They took good care of Baby Jesus. Without them, this story would be very different.”

“Oh! That’s it!” Malulabelle had a new thought. She prayed again. “Dear Jesus, Mary and Joseph listened to your angels. They said yes! What a wonderful gift. And that will be my gift to you too - saying YES when I feel you nudging me. Thank you, Jesus. And Merry Christmas.”

One of the greatest gifts we can give to Jesus is saying Yes to Him! To hear Him, we can be still and listen when we pray. When our hearts and minds are quiet, it is easier to feel His presence. Jesus delights in you! He loves to hear your prayers, to be with you in silence, and bless you.
