-Stay focused on the big picture - that Jesus is your friend, and He will never leave you.
Malulabelle could hardly contain her excitement. She felt jitters in her legs and had the giggles! Tonight was opening night of the school play. Even more exciting, she had the opening line!
“See you tonight, Malulabelle!” Cast-member, Malcom, and Malulabelle high-fived as they ran out the school doors.
At home, Malulabelle recited her lines. She recited all the cast’s lines. She performed in the mirror. She performed to her fluffy pup, Coconut. “Ruff!”
“Thanks for the encouragement, Coconut.” Coconut wiggled and wagged. Malulabelle knew in her heart, she was ready.
Back at the theater, the cast and crew hustled and bustled.
Costumes - check.
Makeup - check.
Set in position - check.
It was showtime.
The house lights dimmed, and a hush waved over the crowd. The curtains whooshed open.
Malulabelle was prepared. But as the spotlight found her, something unexpected happened…
Her tongue felt dry, throat - prickly. Her thoughts went blank.
Staring out into the crowd, Malulabelle felt every set of eyes locked on her.
‘Oh no… what is my line… I’m going to ruin the play.’
Malulabelle’s face burned hot and a lump formed when she swallowed.
In the blink of an eye, she knew what to do. She closed her eyes and prayed. “Dear Jesus, I’m feeling afraid. But I trust in you. Please give me courage to be on stage.”
Malulabelle took a deep breath and opened her eyes. “I can do this,” she whispered. And with a big smile, it all came rushing back. Malulabelle delivered her opening line in a booming voice! Malcom gave her a thumbs up from backstage.
From scene to scene, Malulabelle performed with newfound confidence. The crowd laughed and clapped at all the funny parts. They cheered at the heroic ending!
As the curtains drew closed, Malulabelle took a deep breath once more - this time with joy and relief. “Thank you, Jesus.”
Have you ever felt nervous or afraid? Jesus tells us, ‘Do not be afraid.’ Instead, share your feelings with Him in your prayers. Ask for guidance. Trust that He loves you always, and He will never leave you. Give your worries to God, and He will make your heart feel light.
